Trekking, Hikes ang Verbal Walks on Argopuro

    5-day Trekking “Across Argopuro” >

Day 1: Baderan Busuki – Spring 1 (Distance +/- 7km)
We’ll start our trekking in the village of Baderan Busuki. The first 5 hours of this trek will lead us through areas where trees have been chopped down in order to plot out land for plantations. We might encounter farmers carrying down grass on their back to feed their animals. Or we’ll see people hard at work in the tobacco and corn fields. During another 3 hours of hiking we’ll have many beautiful views of the valleys on Argopuro. We’ll pitch our tents close to the first spring (1750 meters above sea level, m.a.s.l.) where we’ll be able to replenish our water bottles and spend the first night in the wilderness.

Day 2: Well 1 – Cikasur (Distance +/- 4.5 km)
Today we’ll enter the area of the forest which is protected under governmental law. This forest is more dense than most other forests on Argopuro. We’ll hike through a vast savanna region which is very beautiful. While it’s exciting to think about the leopards who roam this area, we’re more likely to see deer, turkeys and wild pigs. After 6 hours we’ll arrive at Cikasur (+/-2200 m.a.s.l.). This place is an open area which was formerly used as an airstrip during WWII by the Japanese; ruins can still be found today. Here we can relax and refresh ourselves in the creek. We might encounter women from Baderan Busuki who walk all this way up to collect “Arnong”-leaves which they sell on the market as a vegetable.

Day 3: Cikasur – Argopuro – Rengganis - Cisentor (Distance +/- 11km)
Today will be a tough day. We’ll leave Cisentor and work our way through rich vegetation and also parts of the forest which have been destroyed by forest fires up to the peak of the Argopuro mountain range. We will reach the Argopuro summit (3088 m.a.s.l.) and the nearby Rengganis summit after a 7 hour walk. We’ll see the ruins of an ancient temple built by the princess Rengganis and learn about the magic of this place. We will also discover pine trees and the Indonesian understanding of “Edelweiss”. We will camp out at Cisentor (+/-2400 m.a.s.l.) after a one hour descent where we can take a dip in the nearby creek and refresh ourselves after a tough day of hiking.

Day 4. Cisentor – Taman Hidup (Distance +/- 8km)
After having reached the summits on Day 3, we’ll start descending the mountain on Day 4. Walking down a steep path through dense tropical rainforest we’ll pass by the creek “Aing Kenek”. If the weather permits, we’ll be able to see the vast area of the Argopuro mountain range from this part of the trail. After about 5 hours of hiking, you’ll notice the change in the forest’s appearance; the trees and lianas are often covered by moss in this part of the forest. After another 3 hours we will reach the mystical lake “Taman Hidup” ( +/- 1900 m.a.s.l.) which is full of beauty and old legends. Taman Hidup is surrounded by dense tropical rainforest and moor. Here, we’ll pitch our tents. The night sounds of the rainforest and the crackling fire will put us to sleep on this last night of the journey.

Day 5: Taman Hidup - Bermi (Distance +/- 5.5 km)
The early morning hours will give us time to relax at the shore of Taman Hidup. We can try our luck fishing or we can swim in the lake. After we’ve enjoyed the beauty of Taman Hidup, we’ll continue our descent towards Bermi. With a little bit of luck we’ll encounter black monkeys on our way .After a steep 2-hour walk through dense forest we’ll enter an area where coffee is grown. Before we reach our ending point at Bermi we’ll make a detour to the waterfall Kali Anan. Here we can take a bath in the pure and cold water and wash away all the dirt. Then we’ll walk back to Bermi in about a half-hour walk and end our trekking for this journey.
