Daytrip to Volcano Ijen
Starting from the basecamp of Ijen you can reach the top in only a one hour walk. It’s best to start early in the morning so the weather will be clear.
On the way you’ll encounter workers carrying down bags of sulphur on their shoulders weighing nearly 100 kg. They take it from the crater and bring it down the steep slope. It’s quite impressive to watch.
The crater is big and contains an acid craterlake.

Hikes through rice fields
The area of East Java is spoiled with very rich volcanic soil and due to the heavy rain during the rainy season, the land is extremely green. It’s a blast walking through the padi rice fields, watching the kids play with the colourful kites dancing in the wind, and observing the people working in the fields, planting every single plant with their very own hands. |
